East Coast Treck with Local Cuisine!

This tour  starts from Caleta de Fuste and heads south along the eastern coastline. The itinerary includes a visit to the museum of the salt in the coastal village of Salina del Carmen. The route will then take you to see the ruins of the Second World War bunker and discover the ruins of a prehistoric Majorero village. The trek is not particularly challenging , so it is also suitable for children and older clinetelle.

Route & Itinerary.

The treck will last approx. 3 hours, starting early in the morning from Caleta de Fuste. We will head south along the coast until you arrive at the ancient salt fields of Carmen, which still produce a unique pink salt (great exfoliating the skin). Here you will also see a magnificent life-sized whale skelaton. At this point of the tour, we will abandon civilization and begin to discover the unspoilt Fuerteventura. We will treck until we reach the marina de la Torre, where we will explore 4 bunkers from the Second World War and oversee the silent old artillery emplacement. Next, we will make a detour until we reach a fresh water spring - an actual oasis in the middle of the desert. Here there is a high chance of spotting peregrine falcons and herons. The excursion will continue heading south along the wild and untouched coastal path, until two hills of 100 metres, sloping, but without particular difficulties. The path will reach the ruins of an ancient Majorero village (population of Berber origin, native of the island, dating back thousands of years). The ruins are full of history and your guide will be pleased to tell you about some of the local legends and traditions. The trek continues on to the black beach of Pozo Negro . Here an ancient lava flow met the sea and created a unique landscape, where the red rocks contrasts with the blue of the ocean.

The tour will end when we enter the fishing village of Pozo Negro, where we will enjoy some great seafood in a restaurant on the beach (Los Caracoles Restaurant makes a outstanding seafood paella!) We will then have free time to rest and enjoy the scenery, soaking up the sun or even take a dip in the sea of this enchanting coastal cove.

During the walk along the coast you will have the chance to see several different species of birds and animals typical of the island of Fuerteventura !

Often lunch is caught freshly that morning thanks to the grandfather of the restaurant, who takes his small rowing boat out fishing daily.

Lunch included in the excursion

Appetizer: Local majorero goats cheese , mojo rojo (spicy sauce typical of the island) and Canarian potatoes (small salted wrinkly potatoes).

Main Course: Delicious grilled fresh fish or paella with green salad.
